It wasn't supposed to happen like this. Peter Parker had just returned from his honeymoon with his new bride, Mary Jane Watson. His biggest worry should have been finding room in his congested apartment for Mary Jane's extensive wardrobe. The recent death of his friend Ned Leeds still haunted him, but he had never really thought about dying himself, even though he faced death out on the street every day as the crime-fighting Spider-Man.
