Tensions mount as the stock market crash of 1929 takes a devastating toll on the people of Berlin. Marthe and Anna are oblivious, drinking and dancing until dawn to the sounds of the Cocoa Kids, but a surprise visitor from Marthe's past provides a rude awakening. Meanwhile, Kurt grapples with the complications of the political situation and finds himself sliding deeper into despair.
