A band of strangers are kidnapped from planets across the galaxy by an evil empire known as the Negation. Imprisoned together in the Negation's dark, chaotic universe, they are led to freedom by a soldier named Obregon Kaine. Now Kaine's fugitives wander the hostile stars, seeking a way home.

When their most vulnerable member, the infant Memi, is snatched away by the Negation's fearsome Lawbringer, Kaine risks everything to get her back. Thus begins an epic rescue mission that pits Kaine's hard-luck escapees against the omnipotent ruler of this vast and dismal realm - the God-Emperor Charon.
